Over a third of London’s children (more than 700,000) are living in poverty. Since 1994, Miracles has been supporting these children and their families and helping them through crisis situations such as serious child illness, homelessness, debt, domestic violence or no recourse to public funds.
The ALMT recently met with James Burton from Miracles to hear about the impact of our Cost of Living campaign. The ALMT contribution had transformed Miracles’ work this year enabling them to reach 120 families with crisis funding. Support has gone to bunk beds and heaters, fridges, travel to and from hospital but the largest contribution has gone on food vouchers.
Miracles have seen the numbers of those in need growing and more and more families struggling to cope with daily life, especially families with sick children, many with cancer, or other additional needs.
In response to this insight, the ALMT have agreed an extension to our crisis funding for families with children receiving treatment and referred to the project by Great Ormond Street, Hackney Ark, Royal Marsden, Young Lives v Cancer and Hestia.
Miracles is anticipating a continued and substantial rise in calls for crisis funding in the coming months. The ALMT will continue to work closely with Miracles to support London families facing serious illness and acute need.
