The transition from primary to secondary school can be daunting, involving new teachers, subjects, and potentially a whole new social circle, requiring children to adapt to a larger environment and increased independence. Neurodivergent and SEND young people are those most likely to struggle. The Theatre Shed’s specialist skills and inclusive practice expertly support and includes these young people, enhancing their independence and confidence.
Transitioning year 7 students at Chiltern Hills Academy will be supported by experienced facilitators, who will utilise games and play to establish a culture where it is safe to be yourself, try new things and make mistakes. Young people will celebrate difference, increase confidence, self-esteem, a sense of belonging, form new friendships and improve mental health and wellbeing which will support their resilience. This is especially important for neurodivergent and SEND students for whom adjusting to change is challenging.
