What is Co-Funding?

Co-funding with the ALMT allows individuals, other Trusts and Foundations, and Companies to contribute funds directly to individual, vetted and approved, project partnerships. With fifteen years of experience awarding grants and working in partnership with children’s organisations around the world, the ALMT is best placed to support you in your philanthropy.

This project addresses the educational gap faced by young refugees by enrolling 50 out-of-school youth, aged 16-25, in Amala’s internationally accredited Global Secondary Diploma (GSD). These young people are living in the UN’s Kakuma Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement in northwestern Kenya, near the South Sudan-Uganda border. The camp has a semi-arid climate and poverty is widespread.

Youth are forced to discontinue their education due to the inability to pay school fees, pressure to engage in low-paid work to support their families, and, for girls, early marriage expectations. Amala offers these young people a crucial second chance to complete their secondary education, enhancing their prospects for further study and employment, addressing the significant gap in educational access and quality for refugee youth.
