Co-funding with the ALMT allows individuals, other Trusts and Foundations, and Companies to contribute funds directly to individual, vetted and approved, project partnerships. In poor, rural areas of Rwanda, disability is not well understood. Even if children with a disability are able to complete school they find it almost impossible to find paid employment and hence a route to independence
Rwanda Action built the Alivera Village in Ntendezi in 2022 to give young people with disabilities invaluable skills and work experience prior to helping them to find employment or setting up their own enterprise projects. It includes two residential blocks five workshops, four shops, a cafe and a small farm and demonstration kitchen garden. The village provides young people with disabilities with opportunities to learn skills such as shoe-making, card-making, tailoring, knitting, hairdressing, catering, office services, farming and gardening.
This grant will enable Rwanda Action to continue to support young people as it moves further towards its goal of self-sustainability, increasing income at the cafe and attracting around 1000 visitors during the year.
