Supporting education, health and childcare for women and children in Aghanistan affected by war.

Women and children in Afghanistan are being disproportionately affected by the political, social, and financial upheavals since the Taliban takeover of August 2021. This project looks to support women in the short-term, through the provision of food and hygiene parcels, but also address the longer-term requirements in Afghanistan by supporting young women to study to become doctors.
The Linda Norgrove Foundation (LNF) was founded in 2010 and supports women and children in Afghanistan through the provision of direct aid by funding many small on the ground projects that directly improve people’s lives but do not appeal to larger charities.
They are working with Afghanistan Green Future Organization (AGFO), a small Afghan charity, to distribute food and hygiene parcels to women who head up families forced to leave their homes in the provinces, who have lost their husbands, and who have responsibility for children under three years old. Under the Taliban regime it is not possible for these women to go out to work so they are under huge financial pressures. The ALMT grant will fund four distribution rounds during the Summer months (100 parcels). Each parcel will feed a family for four to six weeks. We expect this to equate to approximately 600 recipients in total.
LNF also sponsor bright, committed women from poor backgrounds to study medicine. This project will provide funding for eight female students starting in the Fall Semester, 2022. LNF is committed to supporting all scholarship students to graduation.
Funding will cover the entrance exams and university fees as well as an annual living allowance for them as it is now very difficult for young women to find part-time work whilst studying.
