Oaklands School provides education for children and young people with severe complex learning difficulties, including pupils with significant physical and motor impairments and pupils with sensory difficulties. This project sees the children and young people play an active role in designing and contributing to the construction of a new woodland. This includes colourful plaques, artwork and installations which help with the maintenance of the woodland.

The woods help the children and young people with their communication skills, spatial awareness, understanding of the natural environment whilst also encouraging them to experience the outdoors and all it has to offer. The woodland project is long term and highly valued as a resource in the school. Oaklands is continuing to develop the woods with new trees, promoting biodiversity and other projects. It serves the children and their needs very well and the children love the woodland environment. it is hoped that more community groups will be able to utilies the woods in the future.
