What is Co-Funding?

Co-funding with the ALMT allows individuals, other Trusts and Foundations, and Companies to contribute funds directly to individual, vetted and approved, project partnerships. With fifteen years of experience awarding grants and working in partnership with children’s organisations around the world, the ALMT is best placed to support you in your philanthropy.

Working with long-term partners NESWS, this project supports the operation of 27 learning centres in slums and rural areas around Patna, India. These supplementary schools aim to build confidence and skills so that children can understand and vocalise their rights. The majority of NESWS children are enrolled at state schools but do not attend regularly if at all, due to discrimination and bullying from teachers and non-Dalit pupils.

After a period of confidence building and when their maths and literacy skills have been brought up to standard at the learning centres, they will be supported to start regularly attending their state schools and continue at NESWS centres in the afternoon. Those that do, generally outperform their non-Dalit peers academically and have better social skills. The project works with 815 underprivileged children in 27 learning centres, providing high quality primary education enriched with rights education, opportunities for self-expression and creativity. 40 children not currently enrolled in any other school will be supported to secure birth certificates and then enrolled at and encouraged to attend state schools.
