On January 22nd at London Zoo we hosted the Third Angus Lawson Memorial Trust Burn's Night Dinner. The tables all sold before being advertised so apologies to those on the waiting list who did not get tables.
This year we were raising money for our projects in Ghana with Afrikids and also for our orphanage in India. Deutsche Bank very kindly paid the entire costs of £37,000 for the night. I am incredibly grateful to Amy Parker and the DB Charity of the Year team for their support. We raised in total net of all costs £89,000 but this number is rising all the time.
The night was a great success and it started with drinks at 7pm in the "Bugs Room" followed by a three course Scottish dinner including haggis, neeps and tatties. We had a silent auction, main auction conducted by Edward Rising from Sothebys and a raffle. After dinner Lou Jordan, the world-famous Elvis Impersonator, rocked the dance floor. We also had a celebrity guest in Rachel Riley who has replaced Carol Vorderman as the face of Countdown. Rachel hosted the 'Heads and Tails' game. Elvis was followed by a great disco and like the last two years it was a messy evening with the dancefloor packed as carriages were called at 1.30am!!
There are a huge number of people to thank and you know who you are but special thanks to Lissa Wallington, Sally Eastcott, Maired Smith and Joanne Higgins as because without them this event would not have happened.
